In my own version Disney's beguiling animated romp clocking in at 135 minutes, rebellious 21-year-old mermaid Ariel is fascinated with life on land and hopes to study it for her thesis project at the Royal University in 1831. On one of her visits to the surface, which are slowly being allowed by her protective father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince named Eric. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for one whole days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter - and Ariel and Eric will have to work together to foil the sea witch's plans.
