Leigh Whannell (/ˈli ˈwɑːnɛl/; born 17 January 1977) is an Australian filmmaker and actor. He has written multiple films that were directed by his friend James Wan, including Saw (2004), Dead Silence (2007), Insidious (2010), and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013). Whannell made his directorial debut with Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) and has since directed three more films, Upgrade (2018), The Invisible Man (2020) and Wolf Man (2025). Whannell and Wan are the creators of the Saw franchise. Whannell wrote the first installment, co-wrote the second and third installments, was the producer or executive producer for all the films, and appeared as the Adam Stanheight character in three of the installments. He was also the writer of the Saw video game (2009) and co-writer of the film Cooties (2014). Alice Channing is a grown child star who is looking to make a comeback acting wise. She's not unpopular, in fact she is quite popular but she is tired of not being able to grow out of the child star image she has gain. She is sick of the tabloids calling her the "One Wonder Child". This has made her very bitter. At the same time a new up and coming director who has directed Hit after Hit is looking to make his first horror thriller. Since Alice had heard from her fellow actors that this new director has not only saved their careers but has reinvigirated their passion for acting, she seeks him out so she can work with him as the lead in his next project. However she soon finds out that this director uses very unorthodox methods to make sure his actors give their absolute best performance. These methods eventually make Alice question her sanity. The life she hated but she came to accept as reality begins to slowly deteriorate. The line between method acting and reality begins to blur and she feels that the director himself is after her somehow. Is she going crazy or is she in actual danger?
