The Bat is a mirror of wasted legend, a Tijuana luchador who earns his living by donning a cheap Batman costume and letting Bane "break his back" every night for a drunken crowd. With wounded dignity, he is handsome in a way that suggests stolen potential—a man who once taped a newspaper clipping of the real Batman to his childhood wall and dreamed of being a hero. In a quiet locker room scene, he speaks to Bane not as a victim but as a brother in failure: "I only ever had the pretending." He gives Bane permission to leave, to burn the factory, to not come back. He is the first mirror Bane confronts, the ghost of what happens when a legend becomes a parody, and the voice that says: "Be more than this."
