Born in the South to a family of sharecroppers, Elijah Bell’s early years were marked by poverty, racial prejudice, and the heavy burden of an abusive father. He turned to religion at a young age, finding solace and strength in the Baptist church. After a brief stint in the military during World War I, Elijah became a traveling preacher, honing his skills in sermon delivery and charismatic leadership. In the early 1930s, amidst the desperation of the Great Depression, he founded the Juniper Street Revival Movement in New Camden, attracting a large following of disenfranchised workers and families.
