Tony Stark, a billionaire, playboy, and visionary industrial genius, along with his father, is abducted by a terrorist group known as the "Ten Rings." They endure captivity for more than nine months, during which they are compelled to manufacture weapons to support the terrorists' agenda. In a dire situation, Tony finds himself on the verge of death due to shrapnel lodged in his chest. To save his son, Howard constructs a powerful electric generator referred to as an Arc Reactor. Together, Howard and Tony also begin developing a suit of armour, which enables them to escape from their captors. Tony subsequently refines this armour to assist in protecting others.
