One of our two main characters. Sensible, friendly, a loving husband. Very rational and well-to-do. Highly educated. Close to his best friend Roger, who he confides in frequently. Aware that something is wrong with the house next door although he can’t logically explain it. Walt and Col gradually become more and more paranoid about The House, and lose their jobs, friends, and social status as a result of their erratic behavior and attempts to prove themselves right. Col and Walt ultimately die in an unspecified manner as a result of The House’s increasingly strong power, although they fight it every step of the way. Aged in his late 30’s to early 40’s
