In the 31st millennium, the Emperor of Mankind unites the galaxy under his rule, with his greatest son, Horus Lupercal, as his trusted Warmaster. But after a near-fatal wound, Horus is seduced by the dark powers of Chaos, and betrayed by visions of power. Convinced the Emperor is unfit to lead, Horus turns against him, rallying half of the Emperor's legions in a devastating rebellion. As the galaxy plunges into civil war, brothers become enemies. The Emperor’s forces are pushed to the brink, and the battle culminates in the Siege of Terra, where Horus leads a final assault on Earth itself. In a heart-wrenching showdown aboard Horus’s flagship, the Emperor faces his corrupted son. Though victorious, the Emperor is mortally wounded and confined to the Golden Throne, a life-support device that keeps him alive but forever incapacitated. With Horus dead and the Imperium shattered, the traitor legions retreat into the Eye of Terror, leaving the galaxy scarred. The Emperor is worshipped as a god, but his dream of a united humanity is destroyed. The Horus Heresy marks the beginning of an eternal war, as the Imperium stands divided, forever haunted by the betrayal of a son.
