Sean Baker (born February 26, 1971) is an American filmmaker. He is best known for directing independent feature films about the lives of sex workers, including Take Out (2004), Starlet (2012), Tangerine (2015), The Florida Project (2017), Red Rocket (2021), and Anora (2024), the last of which won him the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, as well as Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing. He is also known for creating the Fox/IFC puppet sitcom Greg the Bunny (2002–2006) and its spin-offs.

This follows Eddie "Ace" Malone, a washed-up magician turned small-time con artist who uses his sleight of hand not only for tricks but to hustle and scam people in the grimy underbelly of Las Vegas. Once a rising star in the world of magic, Eddie’s bad decisions, gambling addiction, and moral flexibility have led him down a dark path. Now, Eddie performs cheap parlor tricks in dingy clubs, barely scraping by while pulling small-time cons on tourists. That all changes when he meets Maya, a sharp-tongued bartender with an eye for scams and a plan to hit it big. Maya convinces Eddie to join her in pulling off a series of increasingly elaborate heists, targeting wealthy clients through high-end magic shows. Together, they craft a con that will either make them rich or destroy them both. As Eddie juggles the thrill of the scam with his fading passion for magic, the line between illusion and reality blurs. The tension ramps up when they draw the attention of Salvatore "The Knife" Moretti, a ruthless mobster who wants a cut of their schemes—or their heads.
