Paul Matthews is an average man. He works a 9 to 5 desk job at CCRP Technical in Hatchetfield. He's not very ambitious, which is something that's challenged throughout the story of TGWDLM. He's an anxious, blunt, and hopelessly romantic man who'll walk the extra block to get low quality coffee at Beanie's, the singing coffee shop, just to see Emma Perkins despite his fear of musicals. The idea of sitting there, trapped in a musical is his very own, personal hell. Throughout the show he is shown to not have many, if not any, strong relationships with anyone in Hatchetfield, despite it being the place he was born and bred.
