The story follows Hellevir, a woman who can bring the dead back to life, but at a cost to herself. She enters a bargain with a mysterious figure in the afterlife, agreeing to retrieve treasures from the living world in exchange for lighter resurrection costs. When she resurrects the assassinated Princess Sullivain, she becomes entangled in courtly intrigue, the rise of a new religion, and the threat of civil war as she protects the princess and navigates the consequences of her actions.
