Set in Georgian London at the height of the Hanoverian court (~1750–1770), The Georgian Star follows Sophia Cavendish, 24, a Black woman raised in the household of the Duke of Cavendish — one of the great Whig aristocratic families — as a recognized ward bearing the family name. She is entirely Georgian-English in language, culture, and identity: she speaks English and French, plays the harpsichord with professional skill, manages the Duke's charitable patronage with extraordinary efficiency, and moves through the Georgian social world with the confidence of someone raised at its center. Her arranged marriage to Lord William Hartley — a younger son of an earl, a former soldier, and a man whose plain-spoken manner is the refreshing antidote to the Georgian court's elaborate performance — creates the series' central romance. Two seasons track the marriage across the Georgian social world: its spectacular assembly rooms, its political coffeehouses, its Royal Academy exhibitions, and the specific world of a woman who has been raised royal-adjacent and must now build her own household. S1E1 — The Season Sophia managing the Cavendish household's London season with the efficiency of a general. Lord Hartley arrives at a Cavendish assembly and immediately sits in a corner. They notice each other. S1E6 — The Country House The Hartley family seat. Sophia encountering a world outside the great Whig households. Her adaptability is the scene's subject. S2E10 — The Assembly Series finale: Sophia hosting her own assembly — her household, her guest list, her salon. Lord Hartley watching from the side of the room with the expression of a man who has never understood his own luck so clearly.
