Jonathan Edward Bernthal (/ˈbɜːrnθɔːl/; born September 20, 1976) is an American actor. He came to prominence for portraying Shane Walsh on the AMC horror drama series The Walking Dead (2010–2012; 2018), where he was a starring cast member in the first two seasons. Bernthal achieved further recognition as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in the second season of Daredevil (2016), the spin-off series The Punisher (2017–2019), and the revival series Daredevil: Born Again (2025–present), and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). For his recurring guest role as restaurant owner Michael Berzatto in the series The Bear (2022–present), he won a Primetime Emmy Award. After joining the other heroes to defeat Steppenwolf in Justice League, Barry returns to Central City, where he acts as The Flash for nine years. In his personal life, he considers asking his girlfriend, Iris West, to move in with him. At the same time, scientists begin to disappear and the Rogues returns, but acting strangely. Alongside his partner, Kid Flash, who is Wally West, Iris's nephew, he investigates these occurrences, searching for a connection between them. Barry discovers that Gorilla Grodd, a gorilla with telepathic powers whom he has faced several times over the years, is behind everything. Gorilla Grodd is losing his telepathic abilities and is using the Rogues to distract the speedster heroes, while using the scientists to create an anti-matter wave, intending to recreate the accident that gave him his mental powers.
