Taylor Russell McKenzie (born July 18, 1994) is a Canadian actress and filmmaker. After playing several minor roles, Russell received recognition for starring in the Netflix science fiction series Lost in Space (2018–2021). She rose to prominence with her roles in the drama film Waves (2019), the horror film Escape Room (2019) and its 2021 sequel. She won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for starring in the road movie Bones and All (2022). She performed onstage in the play The Effect from 2023 to 2024. Russell directed the 2020 short documentary film titled The Heart Still Hums, which she co-directed along with Savanah Leaf, which was the base for a movie adaptation by Leaf titled Earth Mama (2023). Fourteen years ago, a young Betty Allen wakes up as she hears noises and goes downstairs and sees her father surrounded by a red and yellow blur. Her mother, Harriet, comes in and tells her daughter to run. Before Betty can react, she suddenly finds herself blocks away in the middle of a street. She runs home, to find her father dead. In Present time a Particle Accelerator causes a freak storm, causing now CSI Investigator Betty Allen to be struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later she awakens with the power of super speed, granting her the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by her new found powers, Betty is shocked to discover she is not the only "Metahuman" who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion and not everyone is using their new powers for good. One of them, Clydia Mardon, is robbing banks with her ability to control the weather. Betty partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates her life to protect the innocent and vows to find out who killed her father when she was a child. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Betty is literally the fastest woman alive, but it won't be long before the world learns what Betty Allen has become The Flash.
