The Empire of Aethelgard is a newly created, gritty fictional continent and island kingdom designed to sit at the intersection of sword and sorcery fantasy, dystopian and extreme, graphic horror which blends the narrative such as Game of Thrones (politics/brutality), The Purge/Saw/Texas Chainsaw Massacre (extreme violence/terror), 28 Days Later (feral/infected), The Running Man (game show), The Wicker Man (folk horror/ritual) and Mad Max (dystopian survival). It is described as a "grim and beautiful medieval fantasy world" which featured and introduced a new island kingdom that merges fantasy, dystopian, horror, and sword-and-sorcery, often featuring "fractured kingdoms vying for power across diverse landscapes". Inspired by Ancient Rome (Republic/Empire), Classical Greece (Athens/Sparta), and Medieval England. It blends the social structure and politics of these eras with the supernatural horror of modern slasher/splatterpunk fiction which was characterized by extreme graphic violence, a lack of modern conveniences, and an intense atmosphere, which sounds like a brutal, fascinating world-build that has mixed between classical discipline of Rome and Greece with the gritty survivalism of Mad Max and the visceral horror of Saw creates a unique "Ancient Dystopia." Inspired by Medieval England which utilizes tropes of plague-ridden, feudalistic environments where life is cheap and survival is paramount. The contrast between the philosophical height of an Athenian-style assembly and the visceral horror of a folk-horror ritual (like The Wicker Man) or a Purge-style sanctioned massacre for one night offers incredible narrative tension that became known as the “unhinged survivalism”. Aethelgard focuses on the "power to kill" (sovereignty), charisma, and the freedom of movement in a desolate land, violence is depicted with extreme gore, featuring gladiator-style combat, visceral battles, and often, the implications of a "scorched earth" style of vengeance. For Aethelgard led by the emperor who focuses on brutal power dynamics, featuring constant war campaigns, massive invasions, brutal conquests, and the systematic use of "scorched earth" tactics and massacres, reminiscent of the harsh realities of warfare. Aethelgard features extreme societal hierarchies, where thousands up to millions are conquered, annexed, and enslaved. These enslaved populations are often used for harsh labor or treated as expendable resources by the state who has punished traitors, political enemies, and the captured through brutal, public spectacles, such as these include gladiatorial death pits, lethal traps, and ritualistic human sacrifices to appease vengeful gods.

A "Narnia-like Westeros" where fantasy and dystopian elements are horrific. The story takes place in Aethelgard, a land defined by radical climatic shifts that dictate its brutal culture including the capital Vesparia (The City of Screams). It is a world without electricity or modern technology, relying on alchemy, archaic sorcery, and raw terror ruled by an absolute monarch—the "Ash Emperor"—who is worshipped as a god. The secret police led by "The Captain," a ruthless enforcer who ensures 100% loyalty, using torture and public humiliation. Citizens must place human bones and skull-candles on their doorsteps to signify their dedication. The state maintains control through a public annual holiday—modeled on the Purge and Roman colosseum games at night—where all crime is legal from sunset till sunrise. It features a massive central colosseum where public "Sacred Rituals" (pig and human sacrifices) occur at May Day, mixed with the annual purge night. Blood magic is used for power, relying on the sacrifices in the capital. Influenced by The Wicker Man, the pagan nature of their loyalty is terrifyingly absolute.
