o the public, he is the lone gunman who assassinated JFK in 1963. In reality, Oswald was recruited by the Department's original founder, James Forrestal, and has been running the organization from the shadows for decades. He doesn't look his age due to the reality-warping nature of the Department's core. He is a master tactician, deeply pragmatic, and entirely devoid of sentimentality. Arc: Oswald views himself as the ultimate, unappreciated savior of mankind. He doesn't care about what is morally "right"; he only cares about keeping the baseline of human reality stable. He takes a twisted, paternal interest in Cole, seeing him as his potential successor—or his smartest threat.
