Akiva Goldsman (born July 7, 1962) is an American filmmaker. Goldsman's filmography as a screenwriter includes The Client; Batman Forever and its sequel Batman & Robin; I, Robot; I Am Legend; Cinderella Man; and numerous rewrites (some credited, some uncredited). He wrote over a dozen episodes for the science fiction television series Fringe. In 2002, Goldsman received the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay for the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind, which also won the Academy Award for Best Picture. In 2006, Goldsman re-teamed with director Ron Howard of A Beautiful Mind to adapt Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code for Howard's film. He also wrote the screenplay for its 2009 sequel Angels & Demons. Goldsman is also known for co-developing the DC Comics TV series Titans and the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard, a sequel to Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Nemesis. He is also the co-creator of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne has retired from his work as the Batman and settled into an unhappy (and secluded) life as the CEO of Wayne Enterprises. The Dent Act has helped the police slow the spread of organized crime in Gotham City to a controllable crawl without Batman's help. Commissioner James Gordon, now resigned to paperwork instead of fieldwork because of the downturn in crime, has to deal with attempts by other city officials to drive him out of office for good — while keeping the truth about Batman's disappearance a secret so Gotham can retain its newfound peace. But the peace Batman has given his beloved city comes under threat just when Gotham needs him the most. A wily thief named Selina Kyle draws the Batman out of hiding by robbing Bruce Wayne, but it is the appearance of the masked terrorist Bane in Gotham that sets off a firestorm of events that ultimately forces Batman to consider how much he's really willing to sacrifice in order to save Gotham City.
