Rhaenyra Targaryen (historical)
for Rhaenyra Targaryen (historical) in The Dance's Fire
Suggested by mr95

She was raised in House Velaryon at the height of the Dance of the Dragons. She chose the Blacks not because she was told to — but because she understood what the succession meant. Set during the Dance of the Dragons (129-131 AC) — the Targaryen civil war between Aegon II and Rhaenyra — The Dance's Fire follows Celeste Velaryon, 26, a Black woman raised within House Velaryon at Driftmark. She is entirely of Westerosi noble tradition — she speaks Common Tongue and High Valyrian, moves through the political world of the Crownlands with authority, and has been formed by the Velaryon household's specific combination of naval power and Valyrian heritage. When the Dance begins and Driftmark sides with Rhaenyra's Blacks, Celeste's role as Lord Corlys's diplomatic voice in negotiations with neutral houses becomes central to the Black cause's political survival. Her relationship with Alyn of Hull — the future Lord Velaryon, then a young sailor of uncertain parentage — is one of the Dance's great unrecorded love stories: a noblewoman and the man who will eventually claim the Velaryon name. S1E1 — Driftmark The Dance beginning. Celeste on the shores of Driftmark, watching the first Black ships prepare. Lord Corlys asking her to write three letters he cannot write himself. S1E7 — Alyn's Ship Celeste and Alyn's first extended scene — on his ship, in harbor, neither exactly where they are supposed to be. The conversation that establishes everything. S2E12 — The Sea Snake's Heir Series finale: The Dance concluded, the Targaryens reduced, the Velaryons diminished but surviving. Alyn's name.
