# The Crown Prequel - Season 1: King Edward VII Edward, the charming but restless Prince of Wales, finally ascends to the British throne after decades in his mother Queen Victoria's shadow. Intelligent, worldly, and determined to modernize the monarchy, Edward VII navigates the complexities of Edwardian politics while managing his scandalous personal life and numerous affairs. As he balances his duties as sovereign with his desire for pleasure and influence, Edward must contend with rising tensions between European powers, the demands of an empire at its peak, and the expectations of a rigid court that struggles to accept his unconventional style. His relationships with his wife Queen Alexandra, his ambitious son George, and powerful political figures shape a transformative era. This intimate portrait reveals how one king's ambition and contradictions reshape the British monarchy and set the stage for the modern world.
