She was raised in House Tyrell. She survived the Red Wedding. She kept the North's hope alive when everyone else thought it was dead. Set in the second phase of the War of the Five Kings (~300-302 AC) — from the Red Wedding through the war's eventual exhausted conclusion — The Broken Realm follows Elara Tyrell, 27, a Black woman raised within House Tyrell of Highgarden as a ward and the household's chief intelligence coordinator. She is entirely of the Reach — she speaks with the Reach's warmth, understands its political traditions, and has been formed by the Tyrell household's specific combination of social grace and absolute political calculation. When the Red Wedding destroys the Northern cause and reshapes the entire war, Elara's connections to multiple factions — she has cultivated relationships across all five kings' camps through the Tyrell's marriage strategy — make her the series' political engine. Her relationship with Lucas of the Brotherhood Without Banners — a knight who serves no king but refuses to stop being one — is the series' central romance: two people trying to find something worth protecting when kingdoms are falling. S1E1 — After the Red Wedding The Reach learning what happened at the Twins. Elara's face. Her calculation of what the Tyrell position now requires. S1E8 — Lucas's Fire Elara encountering the Brotherhood Without Banners. Lucas and Elara's first conversation — she asks him what he believes in. He says he'll tell her when he figures it out. S2E12 — The Last Rose Series finale: The war's exhausted conclusion. Elara's network intact, her information the most complete record of what actually happened across all five king's camps. She burns half of it. The half she keeps will matter.
