Born on December 10, 1957, in Smelyan, Cherkasy Oblast (Ukraine), Semyon Mikhaylovich Strugachyov is a comedic heavyweight of Russian cinema and theater. A graduate of the Far Eastern Institute of Arts, he spent years in the theaters of Vladivostok and Samara before becoming a staple of the Lensoviet Theatre in St. Petersburg.
While he is a versatile character actor, he is immortalized in Russian pop culture as Lev Soloveichik, the slightly neurotic and highly expressive member of the hunting party in the Peculiarities of the National... film series. As of late 2025, he remains a prolific stage performer and a frequent star of contemporary Russian comedies.
