Part of the DC Extended Universe. Takes place fifteen years before "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice". Batman has just recently, within the past five years, statured his name as the crime fighting hero of Gotham City. His business manager, Lucius Fox, informs him of a new crime lord in Gotham, Deacon Blackfire. Deacon is creating a devilish army of the homeless children of Gotham, using a deadly and powerful gas. The gas is pushed through the crime alleys, brainwashing the orphaned children, and putting them under Deacon's command. One fourteen year old child, Dick Grayson, has managed to stay clear of Deacon and is seeking revenge for the deaths of his parents. The boy's father was the doctor who was hired to take care of Harvey Dent's scorched and disfigured face. During one of Harvey's Two-Face rages, he killed the boy's father. The boy's mother was killed by poisonous drugs that were scattered throughout Gotham City by the Joker. Batman has a run in with the boy, after Commissioner Gordon tells Batman to go to Crime Alley to stop Deacon. Batman saves the boy. The boy believes he is too strong and independent to be appreciative of Batman's saving grace. Batman returns days later as Bruce Wayne to change the boy's mind, befriending him. Alfred runs a background check, finding out that the boys real name is Richard Robin Grayson. His parents were Gotham City millionaires that got ruined during the 2000 Gotham City stock market crash. Bruce Wayne watches after him, while Batman continues his battle with Deacon Blackfire. The boy continues to show up during the battles, even saving Batman a couple of times. After much discussion with Alfred, Bruce decides to come clean with the boy and tell him his identify as Batman. Bruce and Commissioner Gordon agree that the boy is well equipped but his presence during the Deacon Blackfire battles is much too dangerous. Lucius Fox comes up with a solution to create a super suit for the boy. Batman and The GraySon team up and take down Deacon, saving the homeless children of Gotham. Nine years go by, we are now six years before "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice", the boy now goes by Robin. He is the boy wonder, who has overcame the impossible. The vengeance still boils underneath him. He still wants revenge for his parents' deaths. He seeks out, from under Batman's guidance, and takes on Two-Face. After nearly escaping death by Two-Face, Batman takes Robin's super suit away. Robin leaves Wayne Manor. Bruce keeps up with Dick through Gotham's newspapers. The boy wonder has now took over as the new vigilante of Gotham. He takes down and kills Two-Face. Robin finds himself stuck in one of the Joker's sick and twisted mind games. Bruce must suit back up and return as Batman. Robin is held captured and is tortured by the Joker and Harley Quinn. Batman gets into a long battle with the Joker, but is unable to stop the torturing of his friend. Robin is killed by the Joker and Harley Quinn. After weeks go by, and the mourning begins to settle, the Joker leaves one last sick joke on the Bat. Robin's suit is hung on the flag pole outside of Wayne Manor, on it "Ha, Ha, Ha. Jokes on you Batman!" is wrote in yellow spray paint. Bruce becomes lost. He feels that he let Robin down. He becomes depressed. His conscious eats him up, and he vowels to never turn his back on anyone again. He sets out to not only save Gotham, but save the world. He spends the next five years studying ways to end the evil (which in turn leads to his fight with Superman and the creation of the Justice League).
