The cousin of Bruce Wayne and a wealthy heiress, Kate Kane initially was a West Point candidate but was forced to drop out due to her homosexuality. After wasting away partying & drinking, a chance encounter with Batman after defending herself from a mugger causes an inspired Kate to sober up and travels the world for two years and undergoing special forces training by her father, Jacob Kane. Returning to Gotham she took up the mantle of Batwoman, and would later become one of Batman's close allies.
