In Gotham City, it is June, and Johnny Viti, the nephew of Carmine "The Roman" Falcone, is set to marry on the hottest day of the year. The Roman presides over a complex crime family that dominates Gotham. However, the Falcone organization is in urgent need of a method to launder their illicit profits, and the Roman identifies the Gotham City Bank as a potential solution. To facilitate this, he has leveraged his influence over several members of the bank's board of directors, including its president, Richard Daniel, to persuade them to engage with his family's operations. Taking advantage of his nephew's wedding, Falcone attempts to sway Bruce Wayne as well, but Wayne remains unconvinced and departs in anger. The Roman expresses his disappointment to his bodyguard Milos regarding Wayne's rejection, yet he reassures himself that there are still enough votes to secure the deal.
