Samuel Henry John Worthington (born 2 August 1976) is an Australian actor. He is known for playing Jake Sully in the Avatar franchise (2009–present), Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation (2009), and Perseus in Clash of the Titans (2010) and its sequel Wrath of the Titans (2012). He has taken other dramatic roles, appearing in The Debt (2010), Everest (2015), Hacksaw Ridge (2016), The Shack (2017), Manhunt (2017), and Fractured (2019). He has received Australia's highest film award three times for his leading roles in Bootmen (2000), Somersault (2004), and Avatar (2009). On television, Worthington appeared in Australia as Howard in Love My Way and Phillip Schuler in the television drama mini-series Deadline Gallipoli, for which he was also an executive producer. He voiced the protagonist, Captain Alex Mason, in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and its sequels Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018). The Batman is intended to be the first of a new Batman film trilogy and establish a Batman-focused shared universe separate from the DCEU.[21][143][384] Key cast members had signed on for future films by November 2019.[385] In December 2021, Pattinson said he had ideas for developing Batman's character in further films, while Clark said The Batman would lay a foundation upon which future films would build.[386] Pattinson and Reeves expressed interest in introducing Robin and featuring the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, or Hush as villains in a sequel.[387] A sequel was announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Pattinson and Reeves set to return.[388][389] Later in August, Mattson Tomlin was confirmed to be co-writing the sequel script with Reeves.[390] In January 2023, the first sequel was revealed to be titled The Batman – Part II, and is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025,[391] with principal photography set to begin in November 2023 at Warner Bros.
