Elsewhere, rookie detective Dick Grayson eagerly joins the force, horrified to see it is invested with corruption. Fortunately, the honest but overworked commissioner Jim Gordon shows him the ropes. At a fundraiser at Wayne Manor, Bruce catches the eye of reporter Vicki Vale. As the night goes on, the Bat Signal illuminates the sky, and Bruce disappears from the scene.
