Mark Alan Ruffalo (born November 22, 1967) is an American actor. He began acting in the late 1980s and first gained recognition for his work in Kenneth Lonergan's play This Is Our Youth (1996) and drama film You Can Count on Me (2000). He went on to star in the romantic comedies 13 Going on 30 (2004) and Just like Heaven (2005), and the thrillers In the Cut (2003), Zodiac (2007), and Shutter Island (2010). He received a Tony Award nomination for his supporting role in the Broadway revival of Awake and Sing! in 2006. Ruffalo has gained international recognition for playing Bruce Banner / Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with the film The Avengers (2012). Ruffalo earned a record-tying four nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing a sperm donor in The Kids Are All Right (2010), Dave Schultz in Foxcatcher (2014), Michael Rezendes in Spotlight (2015), and a debauched lawyer in Poor Things (2023). He won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor for playing a gay activist in the television drama film The Normal Heart (2015), and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for his dual role as identical twins in the miniseries I Know This Much Is True (2020).

Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits a team of extraordinary individuals: Tony Stark/Iron Man, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Hank Pym/Ant-Man, and Janet Van Dyne/Wasp. Loki, the exiled Asgardian prince, steals the Tesseract, a powerful energy source, and uses it to open a portal for an alien invasion and mind controls bruce banner. Thor, Loki’s adoptive brother, joins to stop him and retrieve the Tesseract. Despite their differences and clashing egos, the team tracks Loki, who is building a device to stabilize the portal. They fight and defeta Hulk. Captain America is unfrozen. Black Widow joins the team. Loki manipulates them into conflict, and his mind-controlled forces, led by Clint Barton/Hawkeye, attack S.H.I.E.L.D.’s helicarrier. After a fierce battle, the Avengers regroup when they realize the true scope of Loki’s invasion. Loki unleashes the Chitauri army on New York City, prompting the Avengers to assemble in full force. They engage in an epic battle to protect the city and close the portal. Tony Stark risks his life to guide a nuclear missile through the portal, destroying the alien mothership and ending the invasion. With the world saved and Loki captured, the team parts ways, leaving the door open for future threats. In the aftermath, Thanos, the orchestrator of the invasion, is revealed, hinting at greater challenges to come.
