Aera was Ging's first and only love who died during the traumatic birth of their son, Gon. Having lived a toilsome life fraught with misery and hardship, she provides the inspiration for Ging's to ensure that Gon will be able to rise above the woes of an oppressive existence. On her deathbed, Ging pledges his commitment to a better life for Gon in her memory and promises her that he will dedicate his own life to the freedom and well-being of their son.
