An underdog in the court. Studious, curious, adventurous, and loyal. Sometimes mischievous and playful and often enjoys teasing Uther. As this is pre-The Great Purge, Gaius dabbles in sorcery, but only out of curiosity and his love for knowledge. Young Gaius will play a similar role as old Gaius does to Uther and Merlin does to Arthur. Uther relies on Gaius as a confidant, and Gaius helps Uther because he believes in the purity of his intentions (or maybe he already knows of Arthur's prophecy). Sometimes, however, Gaius is shocked by the harsh decisions Uther makes and is increasingly worried about the king he will one day become. (Richard Wilson played old Gaius in Merlin)
