There mysterious across Gotham where corpses are showing up with organs missing- and they're frozen in blocks of ice Victor Fries was a scientist working for the Powers company, and he was experimenting with cryogenics, using this as a way to save his dying wife Nora who had a terminal disease that caused her organs to fail one by one leading to a very slow death. then one day his boss pulled the plug on his experiments due to cutbacks and when Victor begged them to let him keep working his boss caused an accident that froze his body and made it to where he cannot survive outside subzero temperatures and he built a suit to keep himself alive. He then placed Nora into a pod that kept her in cryogenic stasis while he finds a way to cure her. When Batman discovers this he confronts Victor and tells him to find another way besides killing people to temporarily keep her alive but he keeps killing his employers to keep her alive. Bruce promises Victor that he would do everything in his power to help find a cure. Eventually though this proves to be pointless as there was no cure. When one of Fries' bosses becomes enraged at the situation he goes to Victor's lab and destroys the pod that Nora was being held in and seals her fate. Bruce then tells Victor he couldn't find a cure and Nora confronts Victor about what he has done and that she would have rather died than what he did for her and then accepting fate Victor removed his helmet and spent the last day he had with his wife.
