James Allen Mangold (born December 16, 1963) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. Noted for his versatility in tackling a range of genres, Mangold made his debut as a film director with Heavy (1995) and gained recognition for the films Cop Land (1997), Girl, Interrupted (1999), Identity (2003), Walk the Line (2005), 3:10 to Yuma (2007), and two films in the X-Men franchise with The Wolverine (2013) and Logan (2017), the latter of which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He then directed the sports drama film Ford v Ferrari (2019), which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture, and directed and co-wrote Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), the fifth and final instalment in the Indiana Jones series. For the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown (2024), Mangold was once again nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay and his first nomination for Best Director. A few years after becoming Swamp Thing, Alec Holland finds out that he is actually not Alec Holland. He is actually a plant based entity, who took control over Alec's dying body. Jason Woodrue is aware of the green and he uses Swamp Thing's body to contact it. But it goes wrong and it mutates him into a creature similar to Swamp Thing. He is driven insane because of this and now wants to replace Swamp Thing as the protector of the green. He wants to do this to kill all non plant life on Earth. Alec's old friend, Abby, is investigating about what happened to him. Her husband however doesn't like her investigating. She finds out that Alec is technically alive in Swamp Thing, and the two confess their love for one another. Abby's husband would die in the movie but be resurrected as a raven and be the servant of Dream of th endless. Swamp Thing also teams up with Etrigan the Demon, setting up Justice League Dark.
