The virus emerged around the same time. Abby delves into the swamp, encountering a very strange creature claiming to be Alec. A romance blossoms. After a joint effort to restore Alec's human appearance, the Sunderland Corporation manages to track down Swamp Thing and kill him. Abby escapes. Woodrue then autopsies ST and discovers that he's only superficially human. The creature was not Alec but believed to be. Woodrue concludes that the creature is still alive. He attempts to connect to the Green through ST and becomes Floronic Man. Saved by Abby, ST kills Avery Sunderland and tries to eliminate Woodrue.
