In Metropolis, Clark feels out of place until, as Superman, he rescues reporter Lois Lane, sparking both admiration and competition between them. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor, the CEO of LexCorp, views Superman as a threat and devises a plan to tarnish his image. After a conflict leaves John Corben paralyzed, Lex manipulates him into becoming the cyborg Metallo. As Superman contends with Metallo and Luthor’s schemes, he faces a personal crisis when Jonathan dies during a flood in Smallville. This tragedy compels Clark to embrace his dual heritage, return to Metropolis with renewed resolve, and fully assume his role as Superman, with the support of his mother Martha and newfound love, Lois Lane.
