Jeffrey Warren "Jeff" Daniels (born February 19, 1955) is an American actor and musician. He founded a non-profit theatre company, the Purple Rose Theatre Company, in his home state of Michigan. He has performed in a number of stage productions, both on and off Broadway. He has been nominated for the Tony Award as Best Actor for the Broadway play God of Carnage (2009), along with his other three cast-mates. He has had a thriving film career, from his debut in 1981 in Ragtime, through State of Play in 2009. For his film work, he has received three Golden Globe Award nominations, including as Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical for Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) (hence the name of his theatre company). He has also received nominations by the Screen Actors Guild, Satellite Awards, and several for his work in The Squid and the Whale (London Critics Circle Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Chlotrudis Awards and Gotham Awards).

Clark Kent is a mild-mannered reporter living in the city of Metropolis, working for the Daily Planet. He was born on the planet Kryton, but it exploded, and he was sent to Earth as a baby on an escape pod. He was adopted by farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, finding out that the Sun gives him exceptional powers. Clark’s best friend at the Planet is named Jimmy Olsen, and he is a clumsy photographer. He is in a flirtatious relationship with rival reporter Lois Lane. Lex Luthor, a sinister billionaire has been tracking down the new superhero known as Superman. One day, a LexCorp crew finds a crashed meteorite with a large green rock inside. Luthor gets a visit from Superman who tells him he is making people lose jobs and destroys ecosystems around the world. The green stone found by LexCorp turns out to weaken Superman. Luthor uses this to create a robotic cyborg man named Metallo out of soldier John Corben to stop Superman. Superman fights Metallo, and saves the day. In the final scene, Clark asks Lois out on a date.
