(First appeared in Swamp Thing #1 in 1972 and was created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson). Alec Holland and his wife Linda Olsen Ridge were located in Louisiana and attempted to develop a Bio-Restorative Formula in order to stop food shortages. Thugs sent by Mr. E planted a bomb in the lab in an attempt to kill them both. Alec was caught in the explosion and his body combined with the formula, transferring his consciousness into a humanoid plant creature called Swamp Thing.
