(First appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4 in 1982 and was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod). Roberto da Costa was the son of the millionaire businessman Emmanuel Da Costa who unlocked his mutant powers during a soccer game, when two racially motivated boys knocked him to the ground. He attempted to beat up one of the boys and his mutant appearance manifested, frightening the spectators and other players. Donald Pierce, the White King of the Hellfire Club, kidnapped Roberto's girlfriend Juliana to entice him into joining their organization. After failing to save Juliana, he was recruited by Professor X to join the New Mutants.
