(First appeared in Uncanny X-Men #221 in 1987 and was created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri). Nathaniel Essex was a 19th Century scientist who was obsessed with evolution. He encountered the ancient mutant Apocalypse, who transformed him into a mutant, who would later become Mister Sinister. Mister Sinister would lead a team called the Marauders to massacre the Morlocks, drawing the attention of the X-Men.
