(First appeared in Incredible Hulk #180 in 1974 and was created by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and John Romita). James Howlett was the son of Elizabeth Howlett and the estate groundskeeper Thomas Logan. His mutant powers (including cellular regeneration, immortality, and claws) emerged when he witnessed Thomas kill John Howlett, Sr. (whom he believed was his real father). He lived for at least another century and was recruited by the Canadian government to confront the Hulk. Eventually, Wolverine joined the X-Men and Avengers and became popular enough to receive his own series.
