Kara-Zor-El is the heroine known as Supergirl. Born on Krypton to Superman's uncle and aunt, Kara was rocketed to Earth by her father and mother before Krypton's destruction in order to save her life and protect her infant cousin Kal-El. She crash lands on Earth in Antarctica and is discovered by Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO) agents. She arrives to discover that her cousin is a full grown adult no longer in need of her protection and initially has no interest in being a superhero, due to still grappling with the loss of her home planet and loved ones. She is adopted by scientist/DEO agent Fred Danvers and his wife linguistics professor Evelyn Danvers under the alias Linda Lee Danvers. She lives in the small city of Midvale and graduates Stanhope University where she meets best friend Lucy Lane and love interest Rick Malverne. She works for local news network WGBS as a TV reporter but can no longer ignore the call to be a heroine once the Worldkillers and other villains show up on her front door step threatening to destroy her new life and new home.
