Samus acknowledged Master Hand's existence when the Galactic Federation sent her to investigate strange singularities popping out in the galaxy. Knowing the demonic Ridley is involved, he knew she can't just stand there while others are suffering like she has . . . families separated, homes attacked, and see Ridley in the middle of it. So, she investigated until she ran into the Smash team. They brawled with her because she thought they're enemies. But when Mario said that they were chasing a dragon, Samus stopped fighting and instead joined them. Samus will grow fond of the ragtag team of heroes. Then she knew they could be what she didn't have for a long time: friends.
