Toad comes flying out of a warp zone and crash-lands in Dome City, the Princess and Mario Bros are all thrilled to see him again, but Toad is visibly anxious. A long while ago, Princess Toadstool trusted him to rule the Mushroom Kingdom while she was away, but Toad, not wanting to face any more mishaps and responsibilities, chooses to run away believing all he does is mess up. King Koopa overhears that the Mushroom Kingdom is now vulnerable without a protector and invades their domain he was banished from. Toad must learn what it means to be a responsible leader and assembles Mario, Luigi, and the whole city of cave people to thwart King Koopa’s tyranny, kick him out again and save the Mushroom Kingdom.
