Yorgosย Lanthimosย (Greek:ย ฮฮนฯฯฮณฮฟฯ ฮฮฌฮฝฮธฮนฮผฮฟฯ, born 23 September 1973) is a Greek filmmaker. He has receivedย multiple accolades, including aย BAFTA Award and aย Golden Lion, as well as nominations for fiveย Academy Awardsย and aย Golden Globe Award.
Lanthimos started his career inย experimental theatreย before making his directorial film debut with the sex comedyย My Best Friendย (2001). He rose to prominence by directing the psychological drama filmย Dogtoothย (2009), which won theย Un Certain Regard prize at theย Cannes Film Festivalย and was nominated for theย Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Lanthimos transitioned to making English-language films with the black comedyย The Lobsterย (2015), which earned him anย Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and the psychological thrillerย The Killing of a Sacred Deerย (2017).
He collaborated with actressย Emma Stoneย in the period black comediesย The Favouriteย (2018) andย Poor Thingsย (2023) and the anthology filmย Kinds of Kindnessย (2024). He received nominations for theย Academy Award for Best Directorย andย Best Pictureย forย The Favouriteย andย Poor Things, in addition to winning the Golden Lion for the latter.
