Fan Casting Tony Lauria in Stonewall

Tony Lauria is the coolly detached, transactional face of the Genovese crime family who treats the human rights movement as a captive market. As the front-facing manager and financial backer of the Stonewall Inn, Tony isn't driven by homophobia or hatred—he is driven by pure, mathematical cynicism. To Tony, the queer community isn't a culture; it’s an unprotected underclass that he can exploit for massive profits because the straight world won't let them go anywhere else. He is the operator who coordinates the $1,200-a-week bribery pipeline to New York's 6th Precinct, cuts costs by running a bar with no running water, and sells bootleg liquor to vulnerable people at a premium. When the police Morals Division launches a surprise raid on June 28 without his usual tipped-off warning, Tony's perfectly balanced racket collapses, forcing him into a terrifying realization: the people he broke like glass for years have suddenly learned how to cut back.
