Stormé DeLarverie is the armor of the Greenwich Village streets and the fuse that detonates the Stonewall uprising. At 48, she is a living legend of the underground, a biracial, fiercely masculine butch lesbian who spent decades touring as the celebrated M.C. and male impersonator for the famous Jewel Box Revue. But outside the spotlight, she is the community's de facto bodyguard. When the NYPD attempts to violently force her into a paddy wagon during the Stonewall raid, Stormé refuses to go quietly. Handcuffed and bleeding from a brutal baton strike to the head, she delivers the raw, explosive catalyst that history tried to erase: she looks directly at the passive crowd and shouts, "Why don't you guys do something?", effectively shattering the barrier of fear and igniting a revolution.
