A cynical, world-weary American ex-pat who runs a jungle guide service in Peru, Nathaniel Dodge is a former idealist who lost his fortune and reputation chasing El Dorado. Forced to guide Lara upriver, he reluctantly becomes her ally, sparring partner, and eventual love interest. Beneath his gruff, sarcastic exterior lies a man still haunted by his own failed dreams.
