Anthony Dwane Mackie (born September 23, 1978) is an American actor. He gained wide recognition for portraying Sam Wilson / Falcon / Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and headlining the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and its continuation film Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Mackie made his film debut in 8 Mile (2002), and earned critical recognition for his roles in Brother to Brother (2004), which garnered him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actor, and The Hurt Locker (2008), which earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the AAFCA Awards. He also played Tupac Shakur in Notorious (2009) and Martin Luther King Jr. in the HBO film All the Way (2016). On television, Mackie starred as Takeshi Kovacs in the second season of Netflix's Altered Carbon (2020) and currently leads the Peacock series Twisted Metal (2023–present). In theatre, he has performed in Broadway and Off-Broadway adaptations, including Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, A Soldier's Play, and Carl Hancock Rux's Talk, for which he won an Obie Award in 2002. In the peaceful Lylat system near the center of the Milky Way galaxy, a mixed group of beings live in harmony with each other. Three of the worlds in the system were industrialized and had great civilizations, and the other planets of the system provided numerous natural resources, until the self-appointed emperor Andross came into focus. As a young boy, Andross excelled in all subjects. Before too long he became a Doctor, and then proceeded to work on an engine that utilized hyper-spatial energy in an advanced lab on the planet Corneria, one of the most populated worlds in the system. The ruling council of the planet warned him several times not to conduct experiments using this engine in Corneria's most populated city, but blinded by selfish ambition Andross continued to tinker with it.
