Finn is the son of a former Stormtrooper of the Empire, leading to him being raised to believe the New Republic is evil. When he was eight years old, he met Poe Dameron, who was the child of two rebel pilots. The two became close friends, and he soon came to realize the true evil was the Empire, not the Rebellion. When he became old enough, he left his home world, and joined Poe as a pilot to become smugglers in the galaxy (though they mostly aligned themselves with the New Republic)
