30 years since the fall of the Empire, tensions still seemingly exist in the galaxy: The New Republic and the Imperial Remnants are at a cold war with each other, a militant group of extremists led by a mysterious force wielder has popped up disrupting peace in the border planets, and the past hero Luke Skywalker is missing. When a droid of a wanted Resistance pilot is found by a scavenger in Jakku, she goes on an adventurous journey through the galaxy to send the droid safely back to the New Republic, meeting several characters on the way: a renegade Stormtrooper, an adventure junkie Resistance pilot, and an old war hero; all while being chased by the First Order and it's leader Kylo Ren.
