As a former Chancellor of the New Republic, Lucius Taurel tried in vain to keep peace in the galaxy. But his policy of concessions and non-aggression agreements led to the weakening of the New Republic and the fact that it was not ready for war. After the New Empire's attack on the Republic, he resigned as Chancellor and instead became fully involved in the war as admiral of the New Republic's war fleet to correct his mistakes.
