Karen Sheila Gillan (/ˈɡɪlən/; born 28 November 1987) is a Scottish actress and filmmaker. She gained recognition for her work in British film and television, particularly for playing Amy Pond, a primary companion to the Eleventh Doctor in the science fiction series Doctor Who (2010–2013). Her early film roles include the thriller Outcast (2010) and the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending (2013). She also worked on the stage in Britain, appearing in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence (2011). Gillan transitioned to Hollywood, starring in the horror film Oculus (2013) and playing the lead in the ABC sitcom Selfie (2014). She achieved stardom for portraying Nebula in several films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe(2014–2023), which are among the highest-grossing films of all time, and Ruby Roundhouse in the fantasy films Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). She also wrote and directed the drama film The Party's Just Beginning (2018), which she starred in. She has starred in the comedy film Gunpowder Milkshake (2021), the thriller film Dual (2022), the coming-of-age film Late Bloomers (2023), and returned to British television with the series Douglas Is Cancelled (2024). Fifteen years after the fall of the Galactic Empire, Leia Organa has passed away, while her brother Luke Skywalker trains a new generation of young Jedi, including his son Ben, niece Jaina and nephew Jacen, the children of Leia and Han Solo, in the hopes of creating a new Jedi Order in Leia's honor. In the shadows, darkness lurks. An underworld of offshoot Stormtroopers spread out across multiple planets in the Galaxy alarms Luke, who gathers forces to prevent a potential conflict, but upon realizing that the troops are part of a new army working under Grand Admiral Thrawn, a former Imperial leader, and his master, the mysterious Darth Talon, an increasingly desperate Luke Skywalker, along with Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, C-3PO, and R2-D2 race against time to seek out Ahsoka Tano, the only Jedi that can help them defeat Thrawn. When the heroes think they have won, Darth Talon delivers a crushing blow by turning Jacen Solo to the dark side and setting in motion the rise of a new Galactic Empire.
