Peter Parker has begun working at Oscorp alongside Dr. Otto Octavius, where he discovers a mysterious alien organism being studied inside a containment chamber. Before he can learn what it is, his life as Spider-Man takes a horrifying turn. While patrolling New York at night, Peter is shot and killed by Kraven the Hunter, who buries his body and leaves him to die. Believing Spider-Man is finally gone, Kraven begins hunting other dangerous creatures across the city, including Vermin in the underground sewers. But Peter’s story is not over. The alien symbiote has secretly followed him from Oscorp and finds him beneath the ground. Feeding on Peter’s memories and his desperate desire to return to MJ, the symbiote bonds with him and brings him back to life. Peter emerges wearing a strange black suit that dramatically increases his strength and abilities. He soon discovers that Kraven has begun hunting some of New York’s most dangerous figures and tries to warn Black Cat, only for Kraven to arrive and defeat him. During their second encounter, however, the symbiote takes control of Peter and nearly kills Kraven before Peter manages to regain control. He defeats Kraven and leaves him webbed to the Raft. Realizing that the symbiote is changing him, Peter finally manages to remove it. But the creature quickly finds another host: Eddie Brock, a Daily Bugle reporter who has been pursuing MJ and competing with Peter. The two become Venom, and Eddie uses the symbiote’s knowledge of Peter to hunt him down. Venom confronts MJ but retreats when Peter arrives. Their final battle takes place inside a church, where Peter uses a sonic weapon created by Reed Richards to separate Eddie from the symbiote and defeat Venom. Post-credit scene: At the Baxter Building, Nick Fury examines the captured symbiote. After watching it react to the equipment around it, Fury tells Reed that something this powerful could be useful in the future.
